Other Ways to Bring Plants Home

Plants aren’t only decorative choices. Plant an herb garden for your kitchen to add a pop of greenery and grow a cooking ingredient you can use. Or forage for branches and greenery stems. This option brings in outside life, texture, and an earth tones color palette without you having to maintain a plant week after week.

Faux plants are another option to explore, but be particular about the type of faux plants you buy. To look authentic, you want the color of the greenery to be as close as possible to the actual plant color. Also, check for obvious seams in the stems; they can be a dead giveaway when it comes to spotting a fake.

A large faux tree option can be a nice filler of space, especially in a dark corner where you want some life but nothing will grow. Although there are several varieties out there, a few of my favorite faux trees are olive, ficus, or eucalyptus. To make your tree look as realistic as possible, don’t skimp on the container. Fill the base with kraft paper and top it with rocks or decorative Spanish moss. This extra effort makes it look like the tree is planted instead of just sitting inside a container.
